Jovilea's Cowboy Up

This is "Rip".  He is a very special boy who is looking for a very special home.

He was the 1st of 4 puppies born last June, and when he was born, it looked like he had a tear in his abdomen, thus earning the name Rip.  When he was just hours old, he had surgury to repair this 'hole', and 2 days later exploritory surgury was done to determine if he had any internal anomolies(none), and to try to determine his gender.  3 days after that the sutures broke and he was once again put under to sew him back up.  It's still amazing that he pulled through, and he was considerably smaller than his brothers for a few weeks.  As he grew, he was unable to get his hind legs under him to walk around, as they would keep sliding out like "bambi" on ice.  So I cut up a sock and rigged a little contraption that pulled the legs together so he could shuffle around, and boy did he!  He never let his bigger brothers get the better of him and gave them what-for when they tried to pick on him.  Around 6 weeks of age he begin to catch back up to them in size, and by the time they were 8 weeks old he was running around fine and you never would have guessed he'd had such a rough start in life.  "Cowboy Up" seemed a fitting registered name for this tough little guy.

So what was that "hole"....?

After a lot of research, it was determined that he had an extreme form of Hypospadias, a congenital defect that only affect males, and is very, very rare in dogs.   In Rip's case, his "boy parts" are literally split in two.  Because of this, urine exits his body high up in the urethral cavity, gets caught in the folds of the sheath, and drips out sporadically.  This is why you see him wearing diapers(they are actually generic Pull-Ups).

Rip is perfectly healthy in every other way, and is a delightful boy.  He's very loving, intellegent, and just a tad bit full of himself!  LOL
I would love to find Rip the perfect Forever Home; a family who will love him despite his condition, knowing that he will return that love ten-fold.
If you think you might be interested in meeting Rip give me a call or email.
