| Our
relationship with horses started a long time ago, actually back when
Marie
was a young girl. She had a palomino walker-cross gelding when
she
was growing up in upstate New York. She boarded him not too far from
her
home, and she and her friends used to spend hours running amuck in what
is now a big industrial city. After she and my father moved to
the
country in the late 60's, it was not long before horses once again
joined
the family. This time the 3 sisters became active in 4-H and
showing.
We had a variety of breeds in our barn over the next 10 years, but
mainly
Appaloosa's & Quarter Horses.
After a divorce in the late 70's, mom and daughters moved to Florida. For the next couple years we continued to show, but my sisters soon graduated and moved out, and shortly after, the horses were gone. Interestingly enough, we never could quite bring ourselves to get rid of our tack....and in 1998, after 18 long, horseless years, 3 mares joined our family once again. It was amazing, and somewhat incredible that we had waited so long. But once the bug bit us again, the idea of buying just "one" horse (to share) soon snowballed into, "if one is good, then two is better!" We should have known it was helpless at that point. So now, 6 yrs since we first expanded our 'family', my parents have bought 10 acres in the country and had a home built. My sister is a certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist. My brother, who never showed much interest in the horses when we were growing up, now has 6 and my other sister got a horse again. Needless to say, the horse bug is very catching in our family! The goal of Seneca Oak Farms is to produce quality American Warmbloods and Quarter Horses for the serious-minded competitor. We are slowly inproving our broodmare band with quality horses. Who knows what the future may hold in store for us! Click HERE to take a tour of the barn and property. |
